 desert before the spring bloom

In my last installment I related to you my side-trip to Mexico. After returning to Arizona from Mexico, we enjoyed some warm relaxing days together and then I packed up my personal belongings and flew home to Edmonton on January 26. I left my lovely wife to fend for herself. I was so proud of her. She stayed down there for 5 weeks and handled it like a pro, dumping the waste, filling the water and looking after my fifth wheel like she’d been doing it for a long time .

Upon my arrival home I prepared for the RV Show. The show was successful but I missed having Wendy there to help me. Now that the weather is starting to arizona homewarm up, things are starting to get busy at work. Weren’t the Olympics great? It’s amazing how well Canada did. On Sunday February 28th, I flew back to Phoenix where Wendy picked me up. During my flight I watched the hockey game but we landed during the third period, so I missed that exciting overtime! Well, at least we won, Go, Canada, Go!!!!

Sadly Monday morning it was time to start packing everything away for the summer. It seems strange to be doing the opposite of most people at home – we’re closing up our second home in the spring while those in Edmonton are preparing to open up for the summer. Wendy and I worked until late Monday evening, packing away everything that stays down there and loading up the Jeep and trailer to head home with. There was no time for TV that night! I missed the Bachelor finale! Tuesday morning we had an appointment to put our fifth wheel and storage trailer into the storage lot. We finished that, said goodbye to our neighbors and were on the road before noon. We made it to Mesquite, Nevada around 7 pm and stayed there for the night. We had supper and then decided to have a little fun in the casino before calling it a night. Wednesday morning we hit McDonald’s for breakfast and were on the road by 9:00 am. We had beautiful weather and blacktop all the way to Butte, Montana, where we stopped for the night. In the Monida Pass we did have a few snowflakes falling down but it was barely enough to make the pavement wet. We spent the night in Butte in our little, cold, unheated teardrop trailer in 0 degree weather. I stripped down to my skivvies and was toasty warm all night long, whereas my lovely stubborn wife slept with all her clothes on and froze all night! Thursday morning we were up at 5:30 am, got ourselves a couple of hot coffees and hit the road. We made it to Sweetgrass about 12:30 pm. There were half a dozen vehicles in front of us at the border crossing and they all got pulled over to secondary inspection station. We were through in about two minutes (I think they could see we had nowhere to hide anything we were so small and compact).Edmonton home

Welcome back to Canada! We made it home about 6:30 pm. Oh, home sweet home! We treated ourselves to a nice hot shower (Wendy took an especially long one – no water shortage here). I was back to work on Friday at full force. I was dragging my buns that evening – seems I was suffering from a little jet lag and all this packing and driving tired me out!! But I’m already thinking about my return journey south in 8 months.

Don’t forget about our Spring Fever Open House. Saturday March 20th from

9am to 5pm. There will be some great deals on last year’s models and the new 2010 Jayco line-up. If you’re in the area stop by and say “Hi”. Now that the weather is warming up and you’re making plans for the summer, we wish you all the best. Until next fall, take care.
